For one Saturday each October, St. Helena sets aside the usual Wine Country bustle for something decidedly more local: a celebration of the community itself.

The Hometown Harvest Festival returns Saturday, October 17, bringing live entertainment, food, family activities, and more than 70 artisan and nonprofit vendors to Library Lane and Adams Street.

This year's gathering is especially fitting as St. Helena celebrates its 150th anniversary, adding another chapter to one of the city's favorite annual traditions.

Something for Every Generation

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors can browse booths featuring local artists, craftspeople, and community organizations, enjoy live performances, or stop by the food and beverage area for something to eat.

The Kids Zone provides activities for younger visitors, while the festival's mix of vendors and entertainment gives families and neighbors plenty of reasons to spend an afternoon together.

Unlike many Napa Valley events centered on wine tourism, Hometown Harvest is designed around the people who live here.

The Fun Starts Before the Festival

Early risers can start Saturday with the Hometown Harvest 5K, beginning at 7:45 a.m., or the one-mile Fun Run/Walk at 9 a.m.

Organized by CORE Community Fitness in partnership with St. Helena Parks and Recreation, both events welcome participants looking for an active start to the day.

Register for the 5K or one-mile event.

At 10 a.m., the annual Pet PAWrade brings local pets and their owners together for a community procession. Advance registration is available through the city's festival website.

Race and PAWrade registration closes October 14.

Glad they listed that registration closes October 14. I would definitely have waited until the last minute otherwise.

The festival is free, which is great. Those race fees add up if the whole family wants to run though.

We brought our old lab to the PAWrade a few years ago and she loved all the attention. Fun memory.

Frank D.What a sweet memory. Older dogs deserve a little festival attention too.

Only four hours for all those vendors and activities? Might have to get there right at 11.

I like that it isn't all about wine for once. Local artists and nonprofits deserve the spotlight too.

The one mile walk sounds more my speed than the 5K. Maybe I can convince my sister to join me.

Does anyone know if there will be parking nearby? Library Lane gets busy pretty fast.

A 7:45 start is early, but the 5K and then the festival sounds like a fun Saturday.

Seventy local vendors is a lot to browse. Hope there are plenty of handmade crafts this year.

$54 for a 5K seems pretty steep. Is that normal now?

Nice to have a festival that's for the people who live here and not just visitors. We'll stop by after lunch.
