At just over a year old, Turbo has already landed himself an unusual job at the Napa County Animal Shelter.

The 63-pound Great Pyrenees mix is so comfortable and social around other dogs that shelter staff use him to help evaluate the social skills of other dogs in their care.

That's only part of Turbo's résumé. Shelter staff describe him as intelligent, people-oriented and affectionate. He's spent time in foster homes, has done well with children and genuinely seems to enjoy being around people.

When he's given a little room to settle in, Turbo relaxes into a friendly young dog who greets people with a soft wagging tail and is eager to interact—especially when treats are involved.

At 1 year and 4 months old, Turbo is still a young dog, and at 63 pounds he's already a substantial one. Great Pyrenees are large dogs, so anyone considering him should be prepared for the space, exercise, grooming and training that come with a big young companion.

Turbo has been waiting at the shelter since July 12, which means he's approaching three months without finding his permanent home.

If you're looking for a young, outgoing dog who enjoys people, children and canine company, Turbo might be worth meeting.

Turbo is available through the Napa County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center.

A social dog who helps evaluate other dogs is pretty special. Napa shelter staff must love having him around.

Turbo is a perfect name for a young dog with that much energy, I bet.

He's done well with kids, but I'd still want to meet him and see how he settles in. Hope he gets his chance.

I like that they mention space, exercise and training. Big young dogs need a real plan, not just a cute picture.

Mick D.Exactly. A Pyrenees mix is a big commitment, and it’s great they’re being upfront about what he’ll need.

Treats are the way to this guy's heart, apparently. Can't blame him.

Sounds like a good fit for someone with another friendly dog. What a nice way to help at the shelter while he waits.

I have a big fluffy dog too. They take up the whole couch, and somehow you still let them.

Great Pyrenees coats are no small commitment. Hope he gets a home that knows what grooming takes.

Three months waiting is a long time for a young dog like Turbo. Someone must have room for that wagging tail.

A 63 pound puppy with more growing to do sounds like quite the handful, but he sounds lovely.
