You’re reading this in an email newsletter, so you’ve already cleared at least one technology hurdle.

But you may know a parent, friend, or neighbor who still finds computers intimidating, or who regularly asks you for help.

St. Helena Public Library’s computer classes could be worth recommending.

The library’s computer skills program with Napa Valley Adult Education is designed for adults who want to build confidence with the basics.

The next two November sessions are Thursday, November 5, and Thursday, November 12, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

A starting point for everyday skills

The program covers laptop use, the internet, email, computer terminology, and basic online security.

You do not need prior computer knowledge to participate.

That can make a difference for someone who has put off learning because they worry everyone else will already know more.

The point is to practice the skills that help you become more independent, rather than struggle through unfamiliar tasks on your own.

If you’re recommending the program, ask which computer tasks the person would like to feel more comfortable doing.

They might want help with email, unfamiliar computer terms, or feeling less uncertain about using the internet.

Those are everyday concerns, and learning the basics can make them feel more manageable.

Equipment and language support

Classes are taught in English and Spanish, and Chromebooks are provided.

You do not need to bring your own laptop to use the equipment supplied for class.

The calendar lists the program for adults ages 19 and older, with sessions in the library’s meeting room.

Call 707-253-3594 to enroll and ask about joining an upcoming session.

Following the October 29 class, the next two opportunities to participate are November 5 and 12.

More dates on the calendar

The program extends beyond those two November dates.

The library also lists sessions on November 19, December 3, and December 10, each from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

If the first two dates do not work for you, ask about those later options when you call.

Class details

Where: St. Helena Public Library meeting room, 1492 Library Lane, St. Helena.

Next dates: November 5 and 12, 2026, 12:30–2 p.m.

Enrollment: Call 707-253-3594.

For someone who has been relying on a friend or family member whenever a computer task gets confusing, this could be a useful next step.

A phone call, a printed copy of the details, or an offer to go along may be more useful than forwarding a link.

See the library’s program listing for additional dates and the computer skills class details for enrollment information.

Nice that they have dates into December. I could go with my dad and help him feel less awkward about it.

Does anyone know if you need to sign up for both November dates, or can you just go to one?

Rosa V.I’m not sure if you need to attend both. The article says to call and enroll, so I’d ask them whether you can choose just one date.

12:30 is a tough time for anyone working. It would be nice if they offered some evening classes too.

I helped my neighbor set up email last week and it was a whole afternoon. Might suggest this to her.

My mom gets nervous even opening email. Glad they provide computers to use too.

Linda M.That could really help her feel less pressure. Having a Chromebook there means she can focus on learning without worrying about her own device.
