Napa has a new Mexican restaurant, and it's already turning heads.

Valencia Café opened earlier this summer at 1408 Clay Street, the space previously occupied by Petite Soleil. The restaurant comes from the Valencia family, who built the concept around their own family recipes, brought over from Mexico and adapted with a touch of California influence.

The kitchen's pride is its slow-braised carnitas, prepared the traditional way with the kind of patience that can't be rushed. The menu also features tacos campechanos and tacos a la plancha in the style of Michoacán, along with dishes like quesabirrias served with consommé and a wet burrito finished in green salsa. Every tortilla is hand-pressed each morning using heritage corn, a detail that shows in every bite.

Local diners have already taken notice. Early reviews point to standout al pastor, carnitas, and cabeza tacos, along with friendly service and prices that will allow this to become a regular indulgence.

Valencia Café is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 1408 Clay St., Napa. Reservations, online ordering, and a rewards-based ordering app are all available directly through their website, valenciacafenapa.com.

So happy Napa has more spots for real Mexican food that’s not Tex-Mex. This feels genuine and homemade.

The green salsa on the wet burrito was a nice touch. Not too spicy, just right for me.

I’m always skeptical of ‘family recipes’ but this place truly delivers. You can taste the care in every bite.

The pricing is great for Napa too. Usually good Mexican here is pricey. This might be my new go-to.
