There's a new diner in town, and it's not exactly what you'd expect from the word "diner." George & Kin's opened this spring at 3824 Bel Aire Plaza in Napa. It's open all day, from 8am to 8pm, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner under one roof. No flipping the menu at 11am. Order pancakes at 6pm if that's what you're craving. The name carries real weight. Owner Benny named the restaurant after his great-aunt and great-uncle, George and Kinuko, who raised his mother on their farm in Pocatello, Idaho. They were the closest thing to grandparents Benny and his sisters ever had. The diner blends that Idaho farm history with Benny's Japanese heritage and East Coast upbringing, mixing three different backgrounds into one menu. That mix is what makes the "not-so-classic" label fit. A diner usually means burgers, eggs, and coffee that never runs out. George & Kin's keeps some of that comfort-food backbone but layers in flavors and techniques you wouldn't find at a typical roadside spot. The result sits somewhere between familiar and surprising. Daily Blue Plate Specials run from 4 to 8pm, giving locals an easy reason to swing by after work or on a weeknight when nobody feels like cooking. The full menu is posted online, and online ordering is already up and running through the restaurant's website and app. Rewards members earn points on every order, redeemable for free food down the line. Beyond food, the restaurant carries a community mission. A portion of its work supports a scholarship program, tying the business back to the family story that inspired it in the first place.
The dining room isn't fully open yet, but the team has said more details are coming soon. For now, takeout and online orders are the way in.
