Some dogs walk into a room and demand attention. Beethoven isn't one of them. This 5-year-old American Bulldog, brindle and white with a solid 70 pounds of muscle, has a reputation at the Napa County Animal Shelter for being about as easygoing as dogs come. Staff say he often spends his days relaxing in the office, content just to be near people rather than underfoot. He's fully house-trained, well-mannered, and about as low-drama as a dog his size can be. Beethoven's file also notes that his previous family reported him doing well with small dogs and cats. That kind of flexibility is rare, and it means he could fit into a lot of different households, not just ones without other pets. He's been waiting at the shelter since March, which is longer than a dog with his temperament usually sticks around. Big, quiet dogs sometimes get passed over in favor of puppies or smaller breeds, even when they'd make an easier housemate. Beethoven falls into that category: not flashy, just solid. The Napa County Animal Shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday, from 10am to 4:45pm, with an hour closed for lunch. Walk-ins are welcome for adoptions and meet-and-greets, no appointment required.
